How to join our Beginners class
Our Beginners Obedience classes run in 10-week terms and places are very limited. Classes are popular and often fill within an hour or two of registrations opening. To keep the process manageable for our volunteer trainers, we only take registrations through our Facebook page when each new intake is announced. We cannot accept names early or reserve places in advance.
When registrations open, we’ll publish a post on our Facebook page with the exact date and time that we’ll begin accepting names. Messages are taken in the order they are received until the class is full. Because places can go quickly, we recommend messaging as close to the advertised opening time as possible.
Please only register if you can commit to attending the full term. Our classes run rain, hail or shine, and with limited places available, regular attendance helps us run an effective class for everyone.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for the next Beginners intake announcement.
Build the foundations for a calm, confident, and well-mannered dog in a supportive, real-world training environment. Our Beginners Obedience class is designed for dogs and handlers who are just starting their training journey, focusing on practical skills that make everyday life easier and more enjoyable.
Through positive, reward-based training, you and your dog will learn essential obedience behaviours including:
-
- Loose lead walking
-
- Sit, drop, and stay
-
- Recall and focus work
-
- Calm behaviour around other dogs and people
-
- Confidence and handler engagement
-
- Basic impulse control and manners
Classes are structured to help dogs learn to work around distractions while building trust, communication, and neutrality in a safe group setting. Whether your dog is young, excitable, shy, or simply needs guidance, we tailor exercises to support all experience levels.
Our goal is to help owners feel more confident handling their dogs while creating reliable behaviours that carry over into everyday life at home, on walks, and in the community.
